Today we are launching the 9th incarnation of our Quimby game world. While you can find the detailed configuration of this instance below, you're probably more insterested in the changes we're rolling out with it: In a patch currently limited to Quimby only, we are updating the relative demand data for the first time in many years.
The relative demand data is just what the name suggests: It determines where passengers (and freight) want to fly to in relative terms (like x% of passengers want to fly to ABC). The data is still static and while we used a completely new algorithm to wrangle the source data, it's still essentially based on real-world capacity data and not actual traffic numbers. But it's a great improvement over the data we have used so far, especially because it deals with the problem of unrealistically high traffic numbers at real-world hubs.
With this update, we're making good on our promise to start tackling the demand situation in AirlineSim this year. Obviously, the new data set is just a first step in a series of changes that we'd like to tackle, but I'll write about those in a future update.
For now, the important bit is that you can play with the new data right here and right now on Quimby.
The new dataset will likely be rolled out to all other game worlds in a separate future update.
